Meet The Maker
Hi! I’m Amy, the creator behind curiouspapaya. Ever since I was young, I’ve always loved making arts and crafts. It was only a matter of time before I stumbled upon crocheting! Amigurumi, or the Japanese art of crocheting small plushies, quickly became my obsession. I found it amazing that you could turn a ball of yarn into anything imaginable with just a simple hook!
I first learned how to crochet in 2018 through watching Youtube tutorials and following written patterns. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that I suddenly had a lot of new time on my hands. Taking a break from my normal teaching job allowed me to dive deeper into developing the style and direction of my mini business. My IG “hobby page” (as I used to call it) came to be what it is organically!
Although I enjoy making a variety of things (from custom pets, to playfood for my baby, to classic video game characters), I found that creating things that resounded with my Asian American heritage were the most meaningful! Sharing about the foods, holidays, and traditions I grew up with through the art of amigurumi has been fulfilling – and it brings me joy when others enjoy it as well.
Aside from running my own blog, I’m also a member of The Woobles’ team! I enjoy being a part of a woman-powered company focused on creating beginner crocheter kits. I help teach workshops and office hours and I highly recommend you to check out the variety of creations over at www.thewoobles.com.
I also design patterns for Clover’s blog. It’s been a fun experience being a part of something larger that helps me further improve my craft. They make affordable high-quality crocheting (and other crafting) tools that I can truly feel a huge difference in while I’m using them.
I’m still discovering new things about what goes into running a small business every day. As you can imagine, there are (what feels like a million) different hats to wear! At the end of the day, it’s a real person behind it all – and so, I just want to say thanks for supporting/growing with me if you’ve found yourself here.
I’d love to connect with you! Feel free to drop a hello or reach out with any questions/collab inquiries.
