Meet The Maker
Hi! I’m Amy, the creator behind curiouspapaya. Ever since I was young, I’ve loved arts and crafts. It was only a matter of time before I stumbled upon crocheting! Amigurumi, or the Japanese art of crocheting small plushies, quickly became my obsession. I found it amazing that you could turn a ball of yarn into anything imaginable with just a simple hook!
I first learned how to crochet in 2018 through watching Youtube tutorials and following written patterns. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that I decided to take a break from my normal teaching job which allowed me to dive deeper into developing my brand.
Although I enjoy making a variety of things (from animals, to play food for my baby, to classic video game characters), I found that creating things that resounded with my Asian American heritage was especially meaningful to me. Sharing about the foods, holidays, and traditions I grew up with through the art of amigurumi has been fulfilling – and it brings me joy when others enjoy it as well.
Aside from running curiouspapaya, I also worked with The Woobles, an amazing company that creates beginner crocheter kits. I taught workshops and office hours. Check out their variety of creations over at www.thewoobles.com and keep your eyes peeled for an awesome collaboration by us heading your way!
I also design patterns for Clover’s blog. It’s been a fun experience being a part of something larger that helps me further improve my craft. They make affordable high-quality crocheting (and other crafting) tools that I can truly feel a huge difference in while I’m using them.
Lastly, I’m excited to share that I am currently working on an amigurumi crochet book! More details about it will be shared in the near future.
I’m still discovering new things about what goes into running a small business every day. As you can imagine, there are (what feels like a million) different hats to wear! At the end of the day, it’s a real person behind it all – and so, I just want to say thanks for supporting/growing with me if you’ve found yourself here.
I’d love to connect with you! Feel free to drop a hello or reach out with any questions/collab inquiries.
