Milo the Monkey Crochet Along - part 2

Welcome back to week 2 of our CAL! We began last week with part 1. Find it HERE.

To celebrate the launch of my brand new crochet book, Amigurumi Critters, we as a community will be making Milo together. If you already own the book, amaaazing! You don't need to wait for the CAL schedule to share your make. (And if you don't own it yet, now would be a fantabulous time to snag it while it's on sale).

ARMS

make two; start in Almond yarn

  • Rnd 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x6 [6]
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc) x3 [9]
  • Rnds 3-4 (2 rnds total): sc all around [9]
  • Rnd 5: bo, 8 sc [9]
  • Rnd 6: (dec, 2 sc) x2, sc [7]

Change to Light Brown yarn and cut the Almond yarn. Cut a pipe cleaner double the length of the arm and fold it in half. Then, insert it down to the hand and do not stuff.

  • Rnds 7-17 (11 rnds total): sc all around [7]

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

*Tip: If the tips of the pipe cleaner are sticking out, fold them into the limb.

LEGS

make two; start in Almond yarn

Repeat the steps for the arm and stop at rnd 14 for the legs. Follow the finishing steps for the arms as well.

ASSEMBLY

Mouth:

Step 1: Cut 15 in. [~38 cm] of Black embroidery thread.

Step 2: Weave into the side of the head and leave a yarn tail to secure into a knot at the end.

Step 3: Come out between rnds 11-12, one st away from the right eye. Weave 1.5 sts over (you will need to go through the middle of the “x” shaped stitch)

Step 4: Leave some slack to create the curved line for half of the mouth.

Step 5: Come out one st away from the other eye and weave back into the center to create the other half of the mouth.

Step 6: Secure the curved lines down with fabric glue where the image indicates.

Step 7: Weave back out of where you entered from. Then, secure the thread tails into a knot and bury the excess.

Ears: Sew each ear onto the head spanning rnds 10-11, 1 st away from where the face is.

Arms: Sew each arm onto the body spanning rnds 17-19 of the body, 10 sts apart across the chest.

Legs: Sew each leg onto the body spanning rnds 27-29, 6 sts apart across the lower belly.

Tail: Sew the tail onto the back of the body spanning rnds 26-27, centered between the legs.

Optional: Use a q-tip and blush to create rosy cheeks.

You're finished! Don't forget to submit a photo of your creative take on Milo on Instagram for a chance to win one of our lovely prize bundles. Our guest judges will be taking a look at all your posts and a winner will be announced on September 1st.

Happy crocheting!
