Free Crochet Pattern - Dress Up Snowman Pt. 1

Introducing... my Dress Up Snowman! This was a super fun project I created in collaboration with Michaels' Arts and Crafts Store. I loved using this super plush yarn to whip up my snowman in no time.

*We will be working in a spiral for everything but the scarves.

MATERIALS:

Below are the colors I used but you can modify as you wish! I used less than 1 skein of each color.

-Sweet Snuggles

  • White 4.5 oz [128 g] - snowman body
  • Red: 4.6 oz [130 g] - santa hat and scarf
  • Mint: 2 oz [57 g] - beanie
  • Pink: 1.8 oz [51 g] - scarf
  • Black: 2 oz [57 g] - top hat

-Chenille Home

  • Spruce: 1.8 oz [51 g] - scarf

-Chenille Home Slim

  • Terracotta: 0.5 oz [15 g] - stick arms

-Cozy Fur

  • Ivory: 2 oz [57 g] - santa hat

-Impeccable Solid

  • Brown: 1 ft [30 cm]: mouth

-10 mm hook, 5 mm hook

-18 mm safety eyes

-1 red pom pom (2 cm), 1 yellow pom pom (4 cm), 1 white pom pom (4 cm)

-Jumbo yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers, hot glue

-Fiber fill stuffing: 3.88 oz [110 g]

-4 in. x 4 in. (~10 cm x 10 cm) square of scrap cardboard for the top hat

-Neodymium magnets for the top hat (you can choose to modify this if you prefer not to use magnets).

  

TERMS:

-bo: bobble stitch (tutorial here)

-dc: double crochet

-dec: (invisible) decrease

-flo: front loops only

-inc: increase

-sc: single crochet

-slst: slip stitch

HEAD/BODY (in white yarn, 10 mm hook)

Rnd 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x8 [8]

Rnd 2: (inc) x8 [16]

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x8 [24]

Rnd 4: (sc, inc, sc) x8 [32]

Rnd 5-8 (4 rnds total): sc all around [32]

Rnd 9: (2 sc, dec) x8 [24]

Rnd 10: (sc, dec) x8 [16]

 

Magnets: the Top Hat sticks on using magnets. Secure 3 onto the inside of the head in a triangle shape using hot glue and be sure to check that the same polarity is facing down. [img 1]

 

 

Insert the safety eyes between rnds 6-7, 6 sts apart. Stuff the head well. Continue onto the body.

 

Rnd 11: (flo) - (sc, inc) x8 [24]

Rnd 12: (sc, inc, sc) x8 [32]

Rnd 13: (3 sc, inc) x8 [40]

Rnd 14: (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) x8 [48]

Rnd 15-18 (4 rnds total): sc all around [48]

Rnd 19: (2 sc, dec, 2 sc) x8 [40]

Rnd 20: (3 sc, dec) x8 [32]

Rnd 21: (sc, dec, sc) x8 [24]

 

Stuff well.

 

Rnd 22: (sc, dec) x8 [16]

Rnd 23: (dec) x8 [8]

 

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing the hole closed. Stuff it some more using the tips of your scissors. Using your yarn needle, go through the flo and cinch the hole tight. Bury the tail into the body.

 

Nose: Secure the pom pom nose in between the eyes using hot glue.

 

Mouth: Cut a long strand of brown yarn and sew on a smile at an angle. [img 2]

 

 

STICK ARMS (make two in terracotta yarn, 5 mm hook)

 

*Note: The arms are made of Chenille Home SLIM yarn. Using the same yarn weight as the rest of the pattern will result in arms that are too bulky.

 

Rnd 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x5 [5]

Rnd 2-3 (2 rnds total): sc all around [5]

Rnd 4: bo (TUTORIAL), 4 sc [5]

Rnd 5-10 (6 rnds total): sc all around [5]

 

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. You do not need to stuff.

 

Sew the arms onto the body on rnd 14 with the thumbs facing downward. [img 3-4]
