Free Crochet Pattern - Eggshell Outfit

Easter is right around the corner (which also means that Gertrude's 2nd birthday is soon approaching)! To celebrate, let's make her an eggshell outfit.

*You can find the free pattern for Gertrude the Grumpy Chick HERE.

MATERIALS:

-Yarn in the color of your choice (be sure to use the same yarn weight as what you used for Gertrude). Here, I'm using Paintbox Cotton Aran in Pink.

-2.75 mm hook

-Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker

TERMS:

-ch: chain

-hdc: half double crochet

-inc: increase

-sc: single crochet

-slst: slip stitch

-st(s): stitch(es)

-rnd(s): rounds

TIPS:

-My testers have discovered that the type of yarn you use will impact how this outfit works up. If you are using a softer, more pliable yarn, you may need to modify by adding a few more rnds so that the eggshell is not too shallow :)

EGGSHELL HAT:

*Tip: Crochet over the yarn tail left from the magic circle. Alternatively, you can weave in the tail at the end.

Rnd 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x6 [6]

Rnd 2: (inc) x6 [12]

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 [18]

Rnd 4: (sc, inc, sc) x6 [24]

Rnd 5: sc all around [24]

Rnd 6: (2 sc, inc) x8 [32]

Rnd 7: sc all around [32]

*Note: The next rnd will create the jagged edging. The "ch 1" creates the pointy tip.

Rnd 8: (slst, 2 hdc in the next st, ch 1, 2 hdc in the next st, slst in the next st) x8

Fasten off and leave a short tail to weave in. [img 1]

EGGSHELL BOTTOM:

Rnd 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x6 [6]

Rnd 2: (inc) x6 [12]

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 [18]

Rnd 4: (sc, inc, sc) x6 [24]

Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x6 [30]

Rnd 6: (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) x6 [36]

Rnd 7: sc all around [36]

Rnd 8: (8 sc, inc) x4 [40]

*Note: The next rnd may be modified if you would like a deeper eggshell for Gertrude to sit in.

Rnd 9-10 (2 rnds total): sc all around [40]

Rnd 11: (slst, 2 hdc in next st, ch 1, 2 hdc in next st, slst into the next st) x10

Fasten off and leave a short tail to weave in. [img 2]
